Chester Games Club

Welcome to Chester Games Club!

We have a weekly gaming club in Chester, England. It takes place every Monday night, approx. 18:30-23:00, at the Deva Mail Social Club, Station Road, Chester CH1 3DU (map here). The club is 2 minutes' walk down the road from Chester railway station. There is free on-street parking available after 18:00 just outside the club, and also a small car park. The games take place in a large room at the back of the club (turn left after entering the main doors) which has numerous chairs and large tables. New members can come along free for the first week; after that there is a £1 weekly charge. There is a bar serving drinks and snacks, but other food and drink is not allowed inside (apart from the occasional bag of sweets). Attendance ranges between 15 and 35 people, averaging around 20.

We play the following types of games:

  • RPGs. Current games include: Campaigns vary in length, and are sometimes interrupted to run other RPGs (e.g. short D&D adventures, Paranoia, Godlike). Most games are open for new players, subject to a sensible limit on the number of people round the table. Anyone is free to start their own campaign, assuming there are sufficient free players to join it.
  • Board games, including:
    • German-style games (e.g. Settlers of Catan, Puerto Rico)
    • Longer games (e.g. Arkham Horror, Descent)
  • Card games, including:
    • CCGs (e.g. Magic: the Gathering)
    • Non-CCGs (e.g. the Sherlock Holmes card game, Werewolves of Millers Hollow)
Role-players will often play board games or card games at the start or end of an evening, or for the whole evening if a particular RPG group is taking a break for a week (e.g. due to lack of players). We sometimes have specific weeks when all groups stop to play board games or card games (bank holidays are a favourite for this). Having said all that, people that are solely interested in playing board games are very welcome to do so.

New gamers are welcome; feel free to post on the forum to let us know you're coming or to ask for more information.

Happy gaming!
